APIs and edge cloud (s) are supporting the creation of a new generation of 1) edge enhanced (existing applications) that can be done better or faster from the edge, such as video streaming, and 2) edge native applications – applications that could not exist without the edge, such as driverless cars.
Our Distributed Cloud approach focuses on a micro-cloud environment that co-exists with origin clouds. In particular, operators retain the flexibility to roll-out distributed cloud services from a 3rd party cloud system (example: AWS, Azure) or interconnect with their own organic cloud environments.
Recognizing the entire world of Applications are transforming themselves to an API architecture, and given the power of the API economy, AlefEdge’s approach to E-API’s allows operators to expose existing network functions as an Edge API layer to the Edge Value-chain. This is a core differentiator of the AlefEdge approach and spans the Edge Gateway, Edge Cloud and Edge Applications.
In particular, the distributed clouds do not require any upgrades to origin clouds. For some applications, no origin cloud interconnect may be necessary – this in particular applies to emerging next generation of Edge Applications.
